What are dental implants?
Dental implants are a permanent solution to missing teeth. They are longer-lasting and more durable than removable dentures, need less maintenance, and will perform as well (if not better) than your natural teeth. An implant is composed of a titanium screw embedded in the jawbone – taking the place of the tooth root – to which a crown or bridge is attached. The new tooth or teeth will look natural and feel comfortable.
Implants can improve the appearance of the whole face – eliminating gaps between teeth and filling out sunken cheeks. Where clarity of speech has suffered through tooth-loss or ill-fitting dentures, implants will restore clearer diction. The presence of implants in the jaw will also halt any bone deterioration after tooth-loss.
What is the process?
The implant is surgically inserted in the jawbone, and given time to integrate with the surrounding tissue. A healing period is normally needed before the attachment of the crown or bridge to the implant. At Improve Your Smile we use the Ankylos system, a method for anchoring implants into the jawbone. This makes for a more streamlined process than many other systems, and offers a high level of security for the new ‘tooth’.
Would implants be suitable for me?
If you have sufficient jawbone mass to provide a firm anchor for implants, they could be the ideal solution. Your jawbone mass will be assessed at your consultation using our 3D dental CT scanner. If your jawbone is not robust enough as it is, you may benefit from advanced supporting procedures such as sinus grafting, bone grafting or other treatments – read more. Your needs will be discussed at your free consultation.
