What are crowns and bridges for?

Crowns and bridges are a solution for missing teeth. Being fixed restorations, they do not have the problems associated with removable dental appliances such as dentures and cannot slip out of position, which can cause discomfort and embarrassment.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a cap that has been created to resemble a natural tooth. Crowns are most often used to cover damaged teeth, so they can regain form and function, but also sometimes to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, or alignment. The crowns are bonded onto existing teeth, or onto dental implants. Porcelain or ceramic crowns can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is used to replace missing teeth. It is a small structure carrying suspended artificial teeth, which is firmly anchored to the remaining natural teeth either side of the gap. Bridges provide an effective solution where there are several missing teeth.
