What does Botox do?
Botox (Botulinum Toxin) treatments make a person look younger by smoothing out wrinkles and facial lines. The Botox is injected into specific facial muscles to relax them. This treatment is used to address the following issues:
- Frown lines
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crows’ feet around the eyes
- Eyebrow shaping
How does it work?
Botox temporarily relaxes facial muscles by blocking the signals that come from the nerve endings to the muscles. When the muscles are relaxed, they cannot crease or fold – the movement that causes wrinkles and facial lines. As the muscles recover, the facial lines and wrinkles fade, resulting in a smoother, younger-looking complexion.
How is Botox used?
Botox injections are used for a variety of conditions, both cosmetic and medical. As well as being used for facial enhancements, they are helpful in the medical sphere for treatment of migraines, excessive sweating and muscle spasms. It is a safe procedure that has been used by experts for decades. However, as with any procedure there can be risks, so it is advised that Botox be administered only by clinical professionals.
How long does a Botox treatment take?
The procedure takes 10-15 minutes depending on the number of areas injected. Treatments are quick and painless with the use of a fine needle to administer the toxin into the affected areas. Many women and men have it done in their lunch hour! Results generally appear within 7 days, and may last up to 6 months. Recovery is immediate; there is no ‘down time’.
